Automobiles in Germany's City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Authorities stated they were alerted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then found many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

City officials announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.

A high-ranking representative commented the incident rendered him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
